A Tradition of Excellence Meets Cutting-Edge Virtual Engagement

The Bishop Strachan School (BSS) in Toronto has proudly served students for over 150 years, establishing itself as a premier academy for girls. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the suspension of in-person tours, BSS faced a critical question: How could prospective families fully appreciate its historic campus and dynamic community without setting foot on school grounds?

Reimagining Campus Visibility

Initially, BSS relied on a traditional video tour created by another provider. However, during virtual meetings, the linear, two-dimensional footage proved cumbersome to navigate. With a pressing need for an immersive, interactive solution that captured the warmth and vibrancy of campus life, the school turned to 360Pros. Together, they set out to craft a 360-degree, three-dimensional virtual experience that would introduce prospective families to BSS’s storied architecture, spirited student body, and forward-thinking programs.

Developing the Blueprint

Before the cameras ever rolled, 360Pros collaborated with BSS’s in-house creative and technical teams to identify the most meaningful aspects of the campus—spanning grand halls and classrooms to dorms, sports venues, and social spaces. By thoughtfully planning each shot and sequence, they ensured the final tour would offer a coherent and welcoming narrative, allowing viewers to see the school’s facilities and feel its friendly culture simultaneously.

Weekend of Filming

The production sequence began with aerial drone footage, capturing sweeping views of the school’s iconic façade and sprawling grounds. Once the high-angle perspectives were in place, the focus shifted indoors, where 360Pros used specialized 360-degree cameras and tripods to photograph every inch of the campus—from classrooms and hallways to residential rooms. The final step entailed on-site green-screen videos featuring student ambassadors, whose warmth and enthusiasm would infuse the tour with an authentic, personal touch.

Seamless Post-Production

In post-production, 360Pros fine-tuned every detail, digitally removing distractions (such as stray classroom doodles) to present an immaculate final product. Leveraging the captured drone footage and the 360-degree interior panoramas, they built an immersive tour that prospective families could explore at their own pace. Incorporating the green-screen video segments allowed a BSS student ambassador to guide users through specific highlights, bringing the school’s spirit to life.

Remarkable Results

When the new virtual tour launched, BSS administrators reported a surge of positive feedback. Families praised the ease of navigation and the engaging story told by aerial viewpoints and on-the-ground footage alike. Many prospective students cited the tour as a decisive factor in choosing BSS over other schools, illustrating how an innovative digital approach can drive real-world enrollment outcomes. Even now that in-person tours have resumed, the virtual experience remains crucial for families—particularly those overseas—who wish to preview the campus remotely.

Future-Proofing the Virtual Experience

Recognizing the tour’s long-term value, BSS has committed to keeping it fresh as the school evolves. Executive Director of Enrolment, Hilary Adamson, notes that they plan to continue adding content, scenes, and interactive layers in partnership with 360Pros. In this way, the virtual tour remains a living, breathing representation of a historic institution that seamlessly melds tradition with modern innovation. Through immersive digital storytelling, The Bishop Strachan School has extended its welcoming community far beyond Toronto, proving that excellence in education can shine brightly in any era—onsite or online.
