Immersive Fundraising Experience: Virtual Tour for Busselton Jetty

Busselton Jetty, renowned as the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere, sought innovative ways to engage supporters and raise funds for its preservation and enhancement projects. To achieve this, they developed an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience that allows individuals worldwide to explore the jetty and its underwater observatory from the comfort of their homes.

Project Overview

Understanding the importance of global outreach in fundraising efforts, Busselton Jetty aimed to create a virtual platform that showcases the unique features of the jetty, including its rich history and vibrant marine life. The objective was to provide an engaging and interactive experience that would inspire donations and support for ongoing and future projects.

Development and Features

The virtual experience offers users a 360-degree tour of Busselton Jetty, highlighting key attractions such as the Underwater Observatory. Users can virtually walk along the jetty, descend into the observatory to view the diverse marine ecosystem, and even encounter virtual mermaid performances. This immersive experience is accessible through VR headsets and standard web browsers, ensuring broad accessibility. The project was made possible through funding from the Royalties for Regions Community Chest Fund, demonstrating a successful collaboration between government and community initiatives.

Impact and Accessibility

Since its launch, the virtual tour has significantly enhanced Busselton Jetty's fundraising capabilities by reaching a wider audience. It has allowed supporters who cannot visit in person to experience the jetty's attractions, fostering a deeper connection and commitment to its preservation. The virtual experience has also been utilized in educational programs, providing schools and institutions with a valuable resource to explore marine environments and conservation efforts.
